  1. Roughs – Initial pencil sketches based on your instructions for the project
  2. Revision – After your feedback the rough is revised and returned to your with the corrections
  3. Inking
  4. Final – The final color illustration is created with any minor adjustments from the revision stage.

Concept Design – $100 per page

If you need assistance with figuring out the overall look and feel of your book, you are in need of the concept design. In this phase, we create character sketches, backgrounds, and color samples to help you visualize your idea. These are not part of your book, but the first steps in preparing for your book. Based on our communication, we create a rough, revision, and final drawings that are sent for review. These are revised and resent based on the requested changes. A final revision is created finessing any small issue. At the end of this phase, you have a single mockup page that captures the look and feel of the book.

Character Design – $100 per Character

If your character has not been designed, the character design step is required. In this process we create roughs, revised, and final color character sketch. The roughs is a collection of 5-10 pencil drawings based on your initial idea. These are to establish the characters size, age, personality and character traits. After reviewing the roughs, the revised character sketch is created based on your feedback. The final color character sketch is completed once the revised sketch is approved.

Character Turnaround – $100 per Character

The character turn around is required to help establish what your character looks like from front, 3/4, side, back 3/4 and back views. This step is needed so we can draw your character in any type of situation. It insures that the character will look the same in all the pages of your book. This step is the final pre-production step.

Color Comp & styling – $100 per Illustration

The color comp is a full color example of the illustration style you are asking for your book. If you can provide an example of the exact style you want, a color comp is not required. Without a sample or color comp, we will take artistic liberties based on the style directions but no revisions will be included. The look will be based on the artist discretion.

Spot Illustrations – $50 per Illustration

A spot illustration is a color finished drawing of only the character with no background. The size of the drawing can be small to full page. It is important to note that it does not include props or any background elements. For example, the character driving a car would not count as a spot illustration.

Full page Illustrations – $100 per page

Most books require full page illustration. These include the character, props, and the background. Should you choose, you can use a vignette illustration where the background fades away to the page color. The illustration is per single page and does not cross the book binding into a 2 page spread.

These rates are provided as an estimate for you to calculate the cost of your illustrations. After an initial consultation, we will provide you a contract with the final rates for your projects. The contract will cover the rates, timeline, steps, and additional charges beyond the three step process detailed on this page.
